Human Corpus Luteum

Light (A and B) and electron (C and D) micrographs of human corpora lutea.

By light microscopy, blood vessels were clearly visible in mid (A) and regressing (B) corpora lutea (arrows) but less common during regression.

(C) Endothelial cells of luteal capillaries are surrounded by a basal lamina (arrow). L, luteal cell.

(D) Interstitial matrix (asterisk) between adjacent luteal cells (L1 and L2).

Arrowheads indicate the plasma membranes of adjacent luteal cells.
