Thymus Histology - Adult Involution
- After puberty much of the parenchyma of the thymus is replaced by adipose tissue (adipocytes).
- particularly cortical lymphoid tissue.
- initially proceeds rapid but slows down in adulthood.
- process is called involution
- under the control of steroid hormones
- both sexual hormones and stress hormones.
