Trachea Histology

The trachea is lined by an cells described as a pseudostratified epithelium. (Stain - Haematoxylin Eosin)


Pseudostratified Epithelium

  • All epithelial cells make contact with the basement membrane
  • Not all cells reach the surface of the epithelium.

Specializations and Glandular

  • The epithelial cells may also have surface specializations such as cilia and are described as ciliated.
  • The epithelium also contains Goblet cells, glandular simple columnar epithelial cells hat secrete mucus.
