Meissner's Corpuscle

Meissner's corpuscle is an integumentary (skin) sensory mechanoreceptor located in the dermis superficial region. Sensory receptors present in the skin, touch receptors located close to the epidermis.


Named after Georg Meissner (1829-1905) German histologist, physiologist and anatomist. Beiträge zur Anatomie und Physiologie der Haut. (Contributions to the anatomy and physiology of the skin.) Leipzig, 1853.
