Abnormalities in development can be due to many different reasons and this page gives a few starting points to look at this topic. While abnormal development can be tragic, it has also been a useful tool for developmental biologists using animal models to help understand how development occurs. These mutations can also be informative about key genes and sensitive sites.


There are many different ways that developmental abnormalities can occur the 3 major types are Genetic (inherited) and Environmental derived (maternal) and Unknown (not determined) abnormalities.
