Introduction
This page allows 2009 Students to access their own specific wiki page.
- Please note that all changes including additions, deletions and edits are logged by the wiki.
- For individual projects, specific comments about the course and for your own use, each student has their own wiki page using their student number as a title for the page.
- Hint - you can quickly get directly to your own page on your own home computer by adding your student number (without the z) to this link http://php.med.unsw.edu.au/cellbiology/index.php?title= and then bookmarking.
Individual Projects
--Mark Hill 14:25, 31 March 2009 (EST) Some students have asked me to clarify your assessment.
This is the first year of both online assessment for group (20%) and individual (20%) work.
- The group (20%) assessment is your Group Project. Group Assessment Criteria
- The individual (20%) assessment consists of your individual project page (protein or technique) and the "homework items" I give you at the end of some lectures.
- These homework items are feedback questions on the lecture/lab content you have received. The short answer should be made as an entry on your individual project page. There is no marking of this feedback, and sometimes no one correct answer, but all feedback items must be completed to get full marks for this individual component. I will also occasionally make a comment on your feedback on your associated "discussion page" (tab at top of screen).
- There have been 6 homework items to date:
- Lecture 4 - Nucleus - What did you find interesting and did not know about the nucleus?
- Lecture 5 - Exocytosis - What concept about exocytosis did you find difficult to understand?
- Lecture 7 - Mitochondria - What types of cellular processes require lots of energy from the mitochondria?
- Lecture 8 - Adhesion - What do the different "CAM" acronyms stand for?
- Lecture 10 - What is the name of the epidermal layer between the basal and granulosa layer and how does it relate to intermediate filaments?
- Lab 6 - "If you've seen differences in the distribution of phenotypes in Tm4 over-expressing B35 cells versus control B35 cells, describe these differences. Formulate a hypothesis with regards to what changes on the molecular level may have occurred due to the over-expression of Tm4 that lead to morphological changes that you have observed"
- Lecture 14 - Confocal Microscopy - What are the 2 main forms of generating confocal microscopy?
- Lecture 15 - Cell Cycle - What does "S" stand for in the S phase?
- Lab 10 - Peer Review - Individual Projects
The balance is your end of session theory exam (60%)

Make your Student Wiki Page
- If you have not yet done anything then your student number will be shown in red above.
- Clicking on your own student number will create a new page with your number as the title.
- If you make any additional pages please start the page name with your number, followed by a suitable title.
Student Wiki Page Help
- Editing Basics a page designed to help beginners edit their project page.
- One page Wiki Reference Card print this out and use it to help you with editing your project.
- WikiHelp For editors external link to more detailed information o page editing.
- Open Office is a free office suite that includes a word processor that can save documents in Wiki format. These can then be opened and pasted into your project page.
- ANAT3231 References sources for your project.
- Project Referencing how to add references to your project page.
Student Image Uploading
- Do not upload and copyrighted material. This will be deleted and count against you in the project assessment.
- Please include at least one student drawn image in your project.
- Please (re)name all images uploaded as part of your project starting with the lower case letter z.

Homework Cytoskeleton 1 Intermediate Filaments What is the name of the epidermal layer between the basal and granulosa layer and how does it relate to intermediate filaments?
07 Apr 09
Individual Projects - Your protein or method related to the group project must now be selected and appear as the heading on your individual project page. You should be researching this topic and preparing an overview. The final presentation format will be entirely up to you. For students who don't know where to start try: structure, function, timeline of key discoveries, current research directions.

Homework Cell Junctions What do the acronyms (N-CAM) N-CAM, Ng-CAM L-CAM, I-CAM mean?
31 Mar 09
Homework Lecture 7 - Cell Mitochondria What types of cellular processes require lots of energy from the mitochondria?
